“Thank you for the workshop, it was very useful. I really appreciate all the advice you gave regarding what to include in a personal statement and all the information about showcasing skills through super curricular activities, work experience, voluntary work etc. The workshop really opened my eyes to the numerous opportunities that are out there for getting to know your subject better (such as extra research through listening to TED Talks and podcasts and reading books). It made me aware that I have to find these opportunities for myself because there is limited focuson this type of thing at school. The advice on connecting with former alumni on LinkedIn to find out what their experiences are has persuaded me to create an account to find out more. The advice about deliberately planning out a range of extracurricular and super curricular activities in Year 12 to make your personal statement stand out extra in Y13 was great, even if I as a Y13 wasn’t able to follow it. The powerpoint to follow alongside the presentation contained excellent personal statement building exercises and prompts, allowing me to get to the core of exactly why I wanted to do my subject and get some solid points down. He was very helpful even outside of lessons I was able to contact him via WhatsApp if I was unsure of any question and he helped me make sure I understood and have examples with it. I enjoyed attending the lessons as I knew at the end, I had learnt something each week whether it be a new topic I was unsure of or the method on how to do it. He was great, highly recommended!”
