Widening Horizons

  • Nxt Gen Innovators’ ‘Widening Horizons’ is programme of study for students aged 13-14 which develops the skills and knowledge needed to nurture a growth mindset. Students work through a series of modules to produce a mini STEM research project for a Silver Crest Award.
  • This programme has been designed to prepare your child to be forward- thinking and develop the 10 skills identified by Harvard University which are essential for future careers. Your child will recieve a unique introduction to advance academic content that is challenging and stimulating regardless of their academic ability to prepare them for the ‘Fresh Minds’ programme of study for KS4 and KS5 students.
  • ‘Widening Horizons’ develops the skills for students to participate in ‘Fresh Minds’, which has been successfully running for several years.
  • The classes run as a weekly one-hour session that takes place after school via Microsoft Teams, for a total of 30 hours guided study time.
  • The ‘Widening Horizons’ programme of study is designed to develop a growth mindset in your child by allowing them to complete an advanced curriculum built on university-based concepts and ideas. They are encouraged to further develop their leadership potential by completing a Student Action Project and a STEM Mini Research Project.

Orientation

The first session is orientation week. Students are introduced to the other participants in the class and learn how to use the learning management system and other learning tools provided.

Personal Development Experiences

Each session consists of personal development experiences to enhance the students’ problem solving and research skills.

Recorded Video Leactures

The recorded video lectures are hosted by the Programme Director Jaspal Singh, former Director of Academic ICT at a leading independent school in the UK.

Weekly Live Webinars

Live webinars take place during term time from October to July to guide students through the course. The live webinars take place Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Office Support Hours

Office hours from 9 am – 8 pm during the week to help support students with their research project.

Technical Support

The support team are available over email and Microsoft Team chat to support students on their learning journey.

Continous Course Access

Students will continue to have access to the course videos and learning materials for up to 12 months from the course start date.
